What we believe...

United Methodist stands firmly in the center of Christian teaching. Out of loyalty to Christ and the gospel we have come to a number of convictions concerning the teaching of the Bible. Although we do have boundaries, they are broad and inclusive.

Some Statements of our Faith:

  • God is creator of the world, a world that is good because God created it.
  • God has entrusted us to care for the world.
  • God is almighty and all-powerful, and yet cares for us as a loving Father.
  • God is a God who both judges and offers mercy.
  • We believe in a triune God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • The Bible is the primary source and guideline for our faith.
  • We believe in Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, in whom the divine and human natures are perfectly and inseparably united. He is the eternal word made flesh, the only begotten Son of the Father, born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. As ministering servant He lived, suffered and died on the cross. He was buried, rose from the dead and ascended in Heaven to be with the Father, from where He will return. He is the eternal Savior and Mediator, who intercedes for us, and by Him all people will be judged.
  • We believe that conversion and a new birth in Christ, whether sudden or gradual, occur under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • We rely on God’s grace for our salvation, grace that continues to nurture us and draws us toward perfect love.

We believe that faith in Christ is bound to be expressed in outward works of love. We believe that personal salvation leads us into a mission of evangelical witness, caring service, and social action for human reconciliation, justice, and peace.

Becoming A Member:

A person may join the church by transfer from another church or denomination or by profession of faith. The United Methodist Church recognizes the baptism and confirmation of other churches. Membership is open to all who desire to be followers of Jesus Christ, to live in love and service while growing in faith.

All considering membership are asked to attend a New Member Orientation session held 5 times per year. Sessions are announced in the church bulletin, or you may call the church office for information on the next available session.

The New Member Orientation helps participants understand our church’s sense of mission, our ministries, and our understanding of what is means to be a part of the United Methodist Church. We also review the membership questions on page 33 of the hymnal.

If you would like to explore membership in our congregation, please plan to attend the New Member Orientation session. You may sign up by marking the appropriate place on the registration pad handed out each Sunday morning at worship or by calling the church office at 932-4834.
